    6th Grade Raven Update-August 11

Eagle Staff Ravens SOAR:  Scholars Show Ownership, Academic Focus, and Respect & Responsibility

Dear Incoming 6th Eagle Staff Students,

Welcome!  We are so excited to start the 2020-2021 school year with you!  It will be a different kind of year, but we are going to go on the journey together.

Here are a few important pieces of information for you:

    ·      6th Grade WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Orientation has been rescheduled.  It will NOT be on August 27th, but has been moved to September 23.  We will, however, be sending out video messages before school to welcome you and get you ready to SOAR at Eagle Staff!

    ·      Each student will have the chance to check out a laptop.  We don’t know when our devices will be ready, but as soon as we do, we will send out dates and times for checkout.

    ·      You will also get an Eagle Staff t-shirt!

    ·      We will make sure that we spend lots of time as school starts learning how to access classes, videos, and other things that will make school fantastic.

    ·      Our school supply list is on our website.  We encourage you to buy composition notebooks (at least one for each core class), pens, pencils, and highlighters.  You won’t just be working on a computer, but will be reading, writing, and representing your thinking in real life as well.

Ravens, we can’t wait to get to know you as you begin your middle school journey.  Send any questions to eaglestaff@seattleschools.org.  See you soon!

Eagle Staff Ravens SOAR: Los académicos muestran propiedad, enfoque académico y respeto y responsabilidad

Estimados estudiantes entrantes del 6to grado a Eagle Staff,

¡Bienvenidos!

Summer 2020 6th Grade Welcome Letter

Welcome to Robert Eagle Staff Middle School, where we are nurturing leaders who are engaged citizens, scholars, artists, and activists.

Welcome to the Robert Eagle Staff Middle School community. It is an honor to partner with you in your middle school journey. Over the next few years you will have the chance to explore new ideas, master new skills, and learn from your teachers and peers. Our primary goal is to ensure that you as a student are challenged to grow in core academic content, in critical thinking and problem solving, in your ability to collaborate and communicate, and in developing a strong belief in yourself. We want you to have fun and learn that you can do anything with hard work and persistence.

We are still hosting our 6th grade orientation in partnership with our 8th grade WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) leaders.  Date has been changed and more info coming soon!   It will be online but it will be awesome.  We know that partnership with our staff, students, and families is the key to establishing an effective learning community, and we invite you to join our Friends of Robert Eagle Staff PTSA.

All 6th grade students will take a full year of Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math, and will be assigned to classes according to district designation such as HCC.

STUDENTS WITH IEPs – We will review your IEPs carefully and meet with your teachers to make sure that we are providing the best supports for your learning.

MATH PLACEMENT – Math placement made according to:

    • Next course in sequence
    • 5th grade teacher recommendation

We will be contacting your student’s 5th grade SPS teacher for this information.

Physical Education: Students will be scheduled for one semester of PE unless they qualify for a PE waiver. PE waivers are available for the following reasons: health needs, religious belief, and directed athletics. Students enrolled in two year-long electives (World Language and Orchestra/Band) will automatically have PE waived. PE Waiver Forms will be available in October 2020.

EXPLORATORY & ELECTIVE PREFERENCES – Please take time to complete the electives preferences form on the reverse side of this letter and return the completed form by Friday, May 1, 2020 by mail. You may return your form by US mail to the school address below or you may send the information by email to eaglestaff@seattleschools.org.

    Course descriptions

You can also use this online form to indicate your elective choices.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
