Robert Eagle Staff FAQ Updated-June 2017

    Dear Families, Students, and Friends,

We are fast approaching the end of the school year, and working hard to make sure that our school is ready for excellence and excitement in 2017-2018.

You can continue to check on enrollment and/or waitlist information via the following link: http://www.seattleschools.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=627&pageId=1855434

We are continuing to build our master schedule as our numbers stabilize, and I want to be sure to answer a few frequently asked questions with some updates:

What electives will be available at Robert Eagle Staff?

We are working to make sure that students who are coming to Eagle Staff as 7
th and 8th graders can continue their elective pathways if at all possible, particularly in world language and music.  If your student is in currently 6th or 7th grade, we likely have her/his elective choice form, and are building our schedule based in large part on these 2017-2018 requests.  If your student has not submitted an elective request form in her/his current school, visit our web page to download the form and email or mail in to Eagle Staff per the directions on the form.

We will have a full array of music classes including band, orchestra, and choir, world languages, and visual arts.  Our music teachers are working with teachers and students this spring to make sure that we are providing the right ensembles for their growth.  At this point, we are anticipating being able to offer four levels of orchestra and three levels of band so that we can continue to build on the skills and strengths of our incoming musicians, as well as jazz band during and outside of the school day, marching band, and choir.

We also see a strong interest in Drama and Journalism, and will offer both during the school day and as out of school opportunities.  We will be producing a musical this year and are working on choosing one that will be a great fit for our school.

Although we are committed to finishing out language pathways for our students, we do not think that we will be able to continue offering three world languages in the coming years.  Following student interest as reflected in our current data, we plan to continue building Spanish and Japanese as our core language programs.  If your student has taken French this year, we will work on continuing that pathway in 17-18, but if your student has chosen to begin French in 17-18, we will look at scheduling the next choice language instead.  Contact me directly if you have any questions at macampbell@seattleschools.org.

We see a strong interest in a STEM elective, and have built this into our schedule in order to honor this strong request and take advantage of our 21
st century Makerspace classrooms.  We are building truly innovative learning opportunities for ALL students!

When will my student get her schedule?

Schedules will be available just before the start of the school year.  If for some reason we are not able to accommodate the courses you have requested, we will let you know much sooner than that so that we can work together on courses that meet your students’ goals.

Will the school provide food service?

Breakfast and lunch will be available in the lunchroom.
See here to learn more about nutrition services and how you can apply for free or reduced price breakfast and lunch.  We are still working on our bell schedule, but lunch will likely be 30 to 35 minutes long.

    Will you have student leadership/ASB?

Yes!  Students will have many opportunities to develop as leaders.  In fact, this is one of our core principles.  At Eagle Staff we will nurture leaders who are engaged citizens, scholars, artists, and activists.  We are organizing our ASB structures and will publish information as soon as possible.

    How will transportation work?

    See the
District Transportation Website for the most accurate and up to date information about Transportation, including bell times and transportation standards.  We will have a crossing guard at 90th and Aurora for our students who will walk or bike across Aurora.

    Visit
our website to see the map that shows where school buses will pick up and drop off, and the traffic flow for cars.

    See
our website calendar for community-organized walking and biking tours in our neighborhood taking place in June.  We support safe and healthy routes to school!

    What about after school opportunities?

We are partnering with the Boys and Girls Club to provide after school opportunities for students, and are hoping that these can be on-site.  These would include both academic and enrichment opportunities.

    What about athletics?

Robert Eagle Staff MS will participate in all Middle School inter-scholastic sports, which include Fall: Ultimate Frisbee and Girls’ Soccer; Winter: Girls & Boys Basketball; Spring: Boys Soccer, Track, Volleyball.

Athletic forms and information can be found
